Manipulation of ER–mitochondria interactions with mitofusin modulators reduces cardiac damage during myocardial infarction in mice
From the report
Nature Cardiovascular Research, Published online: 27 October 2026; doi:10.1038/s44161-026-00903-6Axelrod, Nichtová et al. show that acute pharmacological modulation of mitofusins regulates ER/SR–mitochondria calcium transfer and markedly influences myocardial infarct size in mice, independently of mitochondrial fusion. Notably, mitofusin inhibition limits cardiac injury, even when administered at reperfusion, highlighting a potential therapeutic strategy for myocardial infarction.
